And thanks, everyone, for the awesome stories and posts. However, wouldn’t a newly joined sensor create its own device instead of using a parent-created child (empty) device?ĭo I modify the child devices (created by the parent device) to match the physical sensors (Zigbee IDs, DNIs)? Do I modify the physical sensors’ device data to match the child DNIs setup by the parent?Īny help would be greatly appreciated. Must a child device be created by its parent, or can I register an existing device as a child via a parent call? (Obviously the existing child would need appropriate custom DTH methods.) I’m not sure that an existing child would be able to access the parent property though. The parent DTH creates the child DTH devices, but those devices do not have the Zigbee ID and Network Device ID of the actual physical sensors. Start off by opening up the Alexa app on your phone and tap on the menu button in the top-left.
I’ve read hours of online information, but I still do not understand how to associate the child DTH instantiations with the physical sensors. Amazons Alexa is an incredibly capable virtual assistant. I finally made a version that that uses an externally created virtual device, and that seemed to work… except it wasn’t sending TTS to my tablet… so I’ve got problems all over the place and not much of an idea how to tackle them.My goal is to create a parent device (simulated) with two child sensors (Zigbee).
When I install it on my phone, it doesn’t work… it doesn’t create the child device in my device list at all. Interestingly, if I remove the pages and just put in a bunch of sections in the prefs area … the old way of doing things, then my real devices show up, but when I try to install I just a flood of errors saying all kinds of crap about unacceptable values, but no references to lines. The advantage of Virtual Device Creator is that it creates switches of Virtual Switch that have local processing on your hub (which means Smart Lighting rules using them can still be local).
I can install it in the simulator using the child device and it actually creates a device (yeah!) but here’s the problem: None of my physical devices show up in the simulator so I can’t really test it in the simulator to see if it works. It's in the Marketplace of the Classic app hopefully it's in the '+ / SmartApp' in the new app. I coded everything and it saves without issue (yeah!). We also have an integrated simulator that allows you to simulate any devices.
I’m basically trying to re-create my Goodnight Ubi app but set it up for any TTS device and refine it to have better options and use “pages” in the preferences section.īut I seem to be failing miserably. create, you can write code within the IDE for SmartApps and Device Types. I’m feel frustrated honestly at this point and the ‘child device’ is only part of it. I’m still struggling with this app but I’m not sure why. Sorry, I know this question has come up before and I tried to read previous threads to figure it out, but I’m just not getting it. I’ve read the documentation but that seems more geared towards LAN devices.ġ.) Can this app work? That is, can I create a virtual device AND subscribe to that device as my trigger for when to run the app?Ģ.) What’s the command to create a child device? How is this done? Is it it’s own procedure?ģ.) How to I specify the name of this device so that the user can fine/use it later? Using this can allow you to disable various automated. Switch Changes Mode allows a physical or virtual switch to change Modes in SmartThings. There is no need to log into the SmartThings IDE to create a virtual switch.
Unfortunately I’m just not getting how it all works. SwitchMania creates, controls, and uses Virtual Switches from a single application within the SmartThings SmartApp environment. I could write the app with the user manually creating the tile, but I’d like to do it via a virtual child device. I’m trying to write a new SmartApp that will be triggered when a user turns on a virtual on/off tile. I got a lot of pieces and parts, but I think I’m still missing something and I just can’t seem to get it all together. I’ve tried to research this for a number of hours now and I’m just coming up blank.
